From our exclusive Pasadena Cat's Meow series. In 1929, William and Elsie Klug opened a Shell Gas Station and General Store. Elsie Klug would bake pies to sell at the store. Several additions were made to the store after many long hours and determination went into making the business grow. The Klug family have been in the Pasadena area since 1902 when Benjamin and Phillipina Klug purchased a 20 acre homestead on the corner of Mountain Road and Waterford Road. The farm house was the Post Office and General Store, as well as the telephone exchange for the Marley Telephone Company until 1914. In 1954, the original farm house was moved back to make room for a modern service station. In 1989, the Klug’s Service Store was demolished to make way for a WaWa convenience store, which is now on the corner of Mountain and Lake Waterford Roads.
